Software startup Monid announced a single access platform designed to connect artificial intelligence agents with more than 1,700 digital tools and web services. Similar to how model gateways let developers switch between different AI language models using one billing account, Monid allows autonomous software programs to access third party services, such as social media scrapers and video generators, through a unified interface.

Building autonomous AI agents usually requires software developers to manually sign up for multiple software tools, manage several API keys, and pay recurring monthly subscription fees for each service. By replacing individual subscriptions with a single pay per call wallet, Monid lets AI agents autonomously search for the cheapest provider for a specific task and execute actions on the fly. This could lower the financial and technical hurdles for small developers attempting to build complex digital assistants.

However, giving automated agents the ability to purchase software services on demand raises important safety and cost management questions. It remains unclear how developers will enforce strict budget caps or prevent rogue agents from accidentally draining funds by making thousands of unnecessary tool calls. Moreover, as tech giants and cloud providers build their own tool ecosystems, standalone middleware services like Monid may struggle to maintain direct access to proprietary software tools over time.
