The Blend
Microsoft has opened advance orders for its top-tier Surface Laptop Ultra, pricing the base configuration at $2,599 with shipments scheduled to start on October 16, according to reporting by Windows Central. A key feature of the hardware is a re-engineered USB-C port that easily detaches when pulled by accident, preventing the computer from falling if someone trips over the cord.
For regular consumers, this product sits squarely in the luxury hardware space, making it an investment meant primarily for heavy power users. However, bringing a breakaway charging connection to standard USB-C setups offers practical everyday value, providing insurance against accidental drops that frequently ruin expensive electronics.
What remains to be seen is how well the laptop performs under heavy real-world workloads compared to rival premium computers. Additionally, it is worth considering whether rival tech manufacturers will embrace similar detachable cable technology or if this safety feature will remain exclusive to Microsoft's lineup.
