Alef Flying Car completes flight milestone over Tesla vehicle

California startup Alef Aeronautics published video footage of its prototype electric flying vehicle hovering directly over a Tesla sports car, as reported by Interesting Engineering. The company used the flight, which it noted as its 1,000th test run, to showcase its dual road and air design while acknowledging competing concepts from other automakers.

For everyday commuters tired of traffic congestion, the demonstration shows that vehicles capable of driving on normal streets and taking off vertically are moving closer to reality. Alef claims to have gathered thousands of pre-orders for its $300,000 aircraft. Alef holds a restricted experimental airworthiness certificate, but full regulatory approval for unrestricted public commuting is still pending.
