Algorithms model telescope optics to reveal hidden exoplanets
Astronomers applied advanced statistical techniques similar to machine learning algorithms to filter out intense stellar glare from space telescope photographs. The computational method allowed the James Webb Space Telescope to detect faint exoplanets that were previously obscured by the bright light of nearby stars.
