Gene therapy combined with smart eyewear partially restores visual sensitivity
An experimental trial used optogenetic gene therapy to transform remaining retinal cells into light sensitive receptors for blind patients. Combined with custom camera goggles, seven out of ten participants achieved improved object localization.
