Voice mode in ChatGPT connects with email and calendar apps

OpenAI has updated its ChatGPT voice feature, allowing users to connect the assistant directly to external tools like Slack, Google Calendar, and email accounts. As reported by 9to5Mac, the verbal interface can now draw on personal schedules and workspace communication to answer questions spoken aloud. The system is also running on OpenAI's newer GPT-6 model family, which includes Astra, Sol, and Luna.

For everyday users, this means speaking to ChatGPT will feel less like chatting with an isolated chatbot and more like talking to a real personal assistant. Instead of typing out queries or manually checking multiple apps, someone can simply ask their phone about their daily schedule or recent team messages while making breakfast. It bridges the gap between hands-free voice commands and practical, daily administrative tasks.

However, granting a voice tool access to sensitive workplace conversations and personal email threads introduces serious privacy questions. It remains unclear how robustly OpenAI handles accidental audio triggers or potential security risks when retrieving confidential company data over spoken responses.
