A new desktop tool called Streva aims to remove the friction of translating text across different applications. According to the company's official site, the software sits directly inside a user's workflow on Mac, allowing people to translate or dictate text in real time right where their cursor is placed. This removes the hassle of switching windows or copying and pasting text into separate translation sites.

The software interprets voice input into formatted text and supports more than 100 languages. It promises to capture intent and tone rather than delivering literal word for word conversions. Streva currently offers a free plan capped at 2,000 words weekly, alongside a paid tier costing 15 dollars per month for unlimited access. While the software is currently limited to Apple computers, the developers state that versions for Windows and mobile devices are currently in development.

For remote workers, software developers, and international teams, inline tools could drastically speed up daily communication across languages. However, relying on continuous background processing for dictation raises practical questions about battery impact and deep application compatibility. It also remains to be seen whether desktop dictation apps can convince mainstream users to talk out loud at their desks rather than type, especially in shared office environments.
