Researchers use artificial intelligence to recreate soundscapes of prehistoric forests

Scientists analyzed the preserved wing structures of twenty fossilized insects to generate audio of prehistoric calls. An artificial intelligence model predicted acoustic qualities based on the spacing of wing ridges. The project offers a unique auditory perspective on forest ecosystems from millions of years ago.
