OpenAI converts government nominal pricing into discounted usage billing

OpenAI has officially ended a pilot program that allowed United States federal agencies to use its software for a nominal fee of one dollar per year. Under the new arrangement, government departments will transition to standard usage billing, though they will receive a fifty percent discount on regular prices.

For regular taxpayers, this change represents the end of a free pass for public sector artificial intelligence adoption.
