Online video editor Kapwing has introduced a new connection standard that lets AI chatbots control video editing tasks through text prompts. According to technical documentation published by Kapwing, the integration uses the open Model Context Protocol to link workspace tools directly to systems like ChatGPT and Claude. Instead of clicking through traditional web menus, creators can command an AI assistant to upload raw footage, create translated captions, or alter audio tracks inside their project folders.

This shift reflects a broader push across the tech industry to transform chatbots into actionable software operators rather than simple text generators. For media managers and video creators, combining chat commands with video software means repetitive jobs, like converting long videos into captioned clips for social media, can happen in the background. By letting an assistant read project files and trigger actions, creative workflows that previously required manual effort can now occur inside a single chat conversation.

However, the technology is still in its early stages and requires users to manually set up custom connectors rather than installing a standard app. It is not yet clear whether conversational commands can handle fine-grained timeline adjustments as effectively as traditional mouse-based tools.
