According to an announcement posted by OpenAI on X, the updated ChatGPT Work feature can navigate desktop and mobile browsers to complete tasks without actually viewing or storing account credentials.

This update is designed to automate tedious digital errands that usually require manual clicking and form filling. OpenAI noted that the system can perform real world chores like booking government appointments, submitting medical reimbursement requests, processing business invoices, and scheduling package returns. By handling the sign in process securely in the background, the assistant aims to bridge the gap between simple chat responses and full web automation.

While delegating administrative tasks could save consumers and business users significant time, handing over automated browser control to an artificial intelligence introduces novel security risks.
