ChatGPT introduces integration with Apple Messages on Mac

OpenAI has launched a new tool that connects ChatGPT directly to Apple Messages on Mac computers. As announced by the company on X, the plugin allows users to search through past chat histories, summarize lengthy text threads, and automatically draft or dispatch replies from their desktop. Currently, access is restricted to corporate and developer tiers, such as ChatGPT Work.

For everyday workers who handle client requests or scheduling over iMessage, this update moves AI from a standalone search tool into an active messaging assistant. The system can scan incoming texts for dates, pull out event details, and sync them with calendar software without forcing the user to switch between multiple applications.

However, handing over control of personal texting raises obvious privacy and security questions, particularly regarding how sensitive chat logs are stored or processed. It also remains to be seen whether users will actually trust an artificial agent to send unvetted messages on their behalf, or if the fear of awkward blunders will keep people reviewing every draft manually.
