Anthropic brings Cowork task processing into Claude

Anthropic announced that it is combining its dedicated background task system, known as Cowork, directly into the main Claude chat interface. Previously, users had to choose distinct tools inside the application depending on whether they wanted a quick answer or a complex workspace project. The consolidated system allows paid subscribers to run detailed assignments, create documents, and build slide decks from a single prompt.

This update is designed to make managing larger projects simpler for everyday users. People can now instruct the software to complete multi-step tasks, such as reading documents and generating a presentation, and then shut down their computers while the program continues working. Users can also view, edit, and export visual elements like slide decks directly into standard file formats such as PowerPoint.

The updated experience is currently launching for Pro and Max subscribers, with wider availability planned for later dates. It is still unclear how effectively the system will navigate unexpected errors or access limits when executing long tasks without active human supervision. As AI providers increasingly collapse specialized standalone apps back into central chat boxes, it remains an open question whether customers truly want an all in one assistant or if adding broad desktop tools into a basic text box will make the interface feel cluttered.
